If you are a citizen of Australia, Canada, New Zealand or South Africa and you hold a full driving licence in your home country, you can legally drive in the UK for up to 12 months (from the date you last entered the UK).
After 12 months, you can only continue driving in the UK if you exchange your current driving licence for a UK licence.
To exchange your licence, you need to complete a form D1 (available at any Post Office) and send it together with your driver’s licence, a passport photograph and the correct fee (see the D1 Form for further details) to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (the DVLA).
For further information on driving in the UK, contact the DVLA (www.dvla.gov.uk).
