London Transport

Buses

London has an extensive bus network that serves the entire city 24 hours a day. To find out how to get to your destination use the journey planner on the Transport for London website (http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk) or telephone the Travel Information Centre on 0207 222 1234.

Single/Return
A one-way ticket on any London bus journey costs £2.00. You should buy your ticket from the roadside ticket machine by the bus stop or, if there is no roadside ticket machine, on the bus.

Saver
A Saver ticket is a book of six bus tickets. These tickets are usable any time of day, by anyone and on any London bus journey. Saver tickets costs £6 and are available from all tube stations and Travel Information Centres.

Travel card
Travel cards allow unlimited travel on all London buses and are valid for 1-day, 3 days or 7 days. A 1-day travel card costs £3.50 whilst a 7-day travel card costs £13.00.

Oyster Card
If you are going to be in London for more than seven consecutive days, consider buying a pre-paid travel card (Oyster Card). These allow you to board buses, tubes and trains quickly (you simply touch the card on special card readers) and easily (there is no searching for coins for the ticket machine) and when your credit runs low you can top-up your card online or at any tube station. Visit www.oystercard.com for more information.

Tubes

The London tube network is divided into six zones. Zone 1 is central London and zones 2-6 spread from the outskirts of central London to the suburbs.

Tubes operate from 5:30am to midnight Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 11:30pm on Sundays. To find out how to get to your destination use the journey planner on the Transport for London website (http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk) or telephone the Travel Information Centre on 0207 222 1234.

Single
A one-way ticket on any zone 1 journey costs £4. You can buy your ticket from the ticket office or one of the self-service machines in the tube station.

Travel card
Travel cards allow unlimited travel on buses, tubes, trains and the DLR and are valid for either 1-day, 3 days or 7 days. Travel cards are priced according to the duration of the ticket and the travel zones desired but, as a rough guide, a one-day zone 1 travel card costs £6.80, whilst a 7-day zone 1 travel card costs £24.20. Travel cards can be purchased from any tube station or online, before you arrive in the UK, at www.ticket-on-line.com.

Black cabs

London black cabs are well regulated. Therefore, you should feel confident that you are being taken to your destination via the quickest route possible.

Taxis tariffs are determined by the time of day, the distance travelled and the time taken to get you to your destination. A break down of fares is available on the Transport for London website www.tfl.gov.uk.
